It’s Been a While

I know it’s been a while since my last post…I went from being lonely and bored to playing hostess and staying busy in very short order. Talk about a 180!

First, my friend, Kaz came to town to celebrate her birthday in an unforgettable way. She’s a very special friend who has actually known me since I was nine when her and my mother worked at the same television station. She has traveled the world and speaks several languages and is one of the most beautiful people I know, inside and out. I was thrilled when she told me she wanted to come spend her birthday with me in Grenada and felt honored to be included in such a big day.

Upon her arrival in Grenada, we promptly headed to Rocky’s (where I had actually spent the entire day with some professors and special guests of the Veterinary School imbibing on cocktails and playing on the inflatable water trampoline). She was so excited to finally be here that she wanted to celebrate with a Rum Punch right away. Two Rum Punches later, we were on our way to the north side of the island where we went to bed immediately upon making it down stairs.

Over the next week, we visited spots all over the island. River Antoine Distillery, where they make Grenada Sugar Cane Rum, was a particularly entertaining stop for me because the asshole in me found it funny to trick Kaz into tasting the potent liquid, a truly acquired taste, which she swore she could still taste four days later. Yeah, yeah, not very nice, I know…but I’m also the person who tells sushi newbies that the wasabi paste is made from pistachios just to see them take a massive bite. It’s hysterical! Anyways…we took several trips to Grenville, stopping along the way for Water Nut and always making sure to eat at a great little restaurant on the water where they serve the best Red Velvet cake I have ever had. On her actual birthday, we hiked Seven Sisters waterfall, visited Grand Etang Crater Lake and had a proper birthday meal in St. Georges to celebrate.

We spent quite a bit of time over at Bathway Beach with Aggie which gave me the opportunity to work on my tan and gave Kaz a beautiful place to sit in the shade. Of course, we ate breadfruit balls and drank Stags and laughed and laughed. There we several side splitting moments of absolute fuckery which resulted in a cracked tooth, a bruised foot, a strained neck and about 50 wonderfully funny photos to prove neither of us acts our age.

It was a wonderful week and I was pretty sad to see her go but I had to shake it off and get everything in order for my next visitor, an old friend from High School who arrived just five days after Kaz left. We visited many of the same places including Seven Sisters, Bathway, and St. Georges but also made trips to Mount Carmel, LaPhare Bleu and Concord Falls. One day at a beach with a UV index of 12 was all it took for a sunburn to take any more beach days off the schedule…it’s honestly surprising how quickly and easily you can have too much sun here. I’m used to it and still get a little pink on days like that! Several days were spent on work at the computer all day so thankfully I had a couple of projects around the resort that he could work on to stay entertained while I tried to wrap up the Magazine.

After dropping him off at the Airport, I stopped off at the gym (YES a real life gym where I was so happy to be for the first time in a little more than two months!) followed by many consecutive hours at the computer to get the magazine to print. Today I am relaxing a bit before going to pick my hosts up from the airport tomorrow morning. I’m looking forward to hearing all about their trip and having them around again! Starting the 27th, I’ll be on a sailboat to some of the other islands like Union Island, Tobago Cays and Bequai, to name a few. Sail Windjammer is how I was introduced to Grenada ten years ago so it seems an appropriate way to spend my final week here before returning to the States. 16 days is all I have left…I really can’t believe how fast it’s gone by!
