I Made It!!

Greetings from Grenada! Obviously, I made it here safe and sound. I only wish the same for all of my belongings.

Upon arrival at the Miami Airport, I was informed that the information provided by the fine customer service reps at American Airlines a week ago was unfortunately incorrect. Not only could I not check more than two pieces of luggage (I was told I could have 5) but also that boxes were prohibited. Having neatly and securely packed my computer and several other odds and ends into a large Apple box in order to continue working while I am here, I was forced to leave it behind. Fortunately, my mother and Aunt had accompanied me to the airport to help me with all my luggage and they were able to run over to AmeriJet and have it shipped to me. Hopefully, by Tuesday I will have everything I need here.

The flight was delayed about and hour but I was in the air soon enough! The in-air entertainment was Cinderella (the newer remake, not the cartoon). Cute movie if you’re into that fairytale, prince meets peasant girl, falls in love and they live happily ever after kind of crap. I sat next to a lovely young girl who was not only taking her first trip to the island but also her first trip out of the United States. She was noticeably nervous but surprisingly brave for a girl her age. I enjoyed very much telling her about my experiences in Grenada and learning about her plans. Before I knew it, we hit the runway and filed off the plane where I met the taxi driver sent by Joy and Hans and climbed in for the hour-long drive to Almost Paradise Cottages. Then, after 8 hours of travel, my taxi driver pulled into my new home! My hosts were there to greet me and help me get settled in for the night; everything could wait until morning….what I needed now was to sleep!

I woke up with the sun shining through the open windows, sat up and just gazed out at the Caribbean Sea. I just sat there for several moments, silently feeling grateful for such and beautiful view at such a beautiful resort in such a beautiful country. My brain’s need for coffee soon broke me out of the trance and I made my way up the path to the main dining area where I found Joy and Hans. They were making their plans for the day and getting ready to head out for a morning of Yoga and other errands. I was invited to tag along but declined as I had plenty to keep me busy for several hours and set about unpacking and getting everything organized in my cottage.

I did fit in a quick workout in by hiking down to the beach and jogging my way back up, finishing with some stadiums and body weight/resistance exercises. I wrapped up my first day here with a walk with Joy and the adorable dog I’ll be caring for while I’m here and a delicious dinner prepared by Hans. We sat for a while enjoying some wine and talking about travel. They are both impressive people, having traveled extensively and with so many wonderful stories to tell. I could listen to their adventures for hours!
I retired to my cottage pretty early and fell asleep listening to the waves crashing on the shore. Today we are headed into town to do a little grocery shopping and maybe we’ll get to walk around a bit too! It’s so wonderful  to be here in Grenada again!!!

  1. I look forward to listening to your adventures in person when you return. You know, the stuff that you can’t write about 🙂
