Adventures in Grenada

It’s been a fun 8 days since my last update post. Joy and I have been working on projects around the property in preparation for them to head off on their vacation. We’ve stained a few more chairs (only one bench left to do now) and worked on getting the garden ready for tomato plants. Personally, I love getting my hands dirty and being outside…there is something about that fresh air and sunshine that does something to you.

I accompanied Joy to yoga class again on Friday and, again, loved every second of it (maybe I was wrong about the ‘slower’ stuff!). Afterwards, we put on our swimsuits and hopped in the pool for a little while then dried off and headed to By the Sea for lunch. Friday’s are such fun days here on the island!

Saturday, I spent the first half of my day on the beach just listening to the waves and thinking. Those of you who know me personally already know that anytime I am left alone with my thoughts, it can turn disasterous but don’t worry, I was happy to be alone with them. I felt so blessed for those few hours just sitting alone in silence and thinking about life (and mostly, glad to be getting a little browner!). Upon walking back up to the resort, Hans, Joy and I hopped in the car and headed north to a little beach where Hans posted up and Joy and I went for a walk along the shore and talked. I’m so lucky that the universe brought these people into my life not only for this opportunity but also because I truly enjoy their spirit.

We ate lunch at Aggies where I indulged in my favorite: cheesy bread fruit balls! Oh. My. Goodness. Those things are so gooooooood! And Joy and I shared an incredible crepe dessert as we talked with Aggie. Her and I hit it off and she said she’d take me to Carnival this Tuesday! If you don’t know what Carnival is, it’s a big festival season with a lot of history (link above). The photographer in me has always wanted to go to Carnival but have never been in the Caribbean at the time of the event. But this year is different! I will be sure to post lots of pictures of the festivities for you guys.

Sunday was, of course, spent at Rocky’s where they were doing some sort of radio promotion so it was much busier than usual. Joy and Hans apparently had fun acting as my ‘bodyguards’ and spent much of the day laughing about the ‘circling’ that was occurring. It didn’t phase me any, though, I’m not here for that so frankly nearly all of it went totally unnoticed by me as I was happily sipping my cocktail. I guess any new face is worthy of at least a little attention there lol! Plus, I have a feeling there was quite a bit of exaggerating going on 🙂

Monday meant that Sabrina and Happy paid us a visit for dinner. Hans cooked ribs and Joy and I created a custom cocktail which her and I liked but was not received well by anyone else. We laughed and talked until “late” (in quotes because late for me is now 10pm). Sabrina and Happy are going to be taking me to a smaller Carnival on Monday so we made plans and said goodnight.

All in all, it was a wonderful week! I even learned to make homemade pizza dough, pizza sauce and, you guessed it; pizza (thank you, Joy)! I’m getting used to the slower life here and am really learning to just be present and enjoy this incredible adventure!
